A Minnesota teenager, Daniel Hauser (13 years old) was ordered by a Minnesota judge that he must continue chemotherapy against his wishes. Hauser who has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma fled the state to California with his mother trying to avoid taking chemotherapy, and wanting to look into alternative treatment. The poor teenager has lost over ten pounds and most of the time does not feel like eating while taking chemotherapy. The judge ruled that Hauser is still in need of child protection services and is to not leave the state.
This is extremely frustrating to me coming from a person who has a friend with stage four cancer. If a patient does not want to take chemo and thinks they can find a better cure for themselves, LET THEM! Just because Daniel’s mother is trying to help her son out and respect her child’s wishes does NOT make her a bad parent, she is trying to HELP her son, not hurt him. Daniel has said that he does not like the chemo treatment or the way he feels when he is on it, I do not blame him one bit, it makes you feel horrible – I have witnessed my good friend after chemo, they feel sick, they cannot move, they just try and sleep, etc. If Daniel goes to California, and finds a better cure for his cancer than chemo, good for him, and if he doesn’t, I am sure he will come right back to Minnesota, where this ridiculous judge thinks he needs to be. One thing people do not realize is that when a person is sick, especially with cancer, they need love and support. The more love and support they get the easier and faster they will recover. Who knows, maybe if Daniel is out in the sunshine more, near Disneyland, maybe his recovery with that alone will speed things up. How does a judge have the right to order a child who wants to try alternative treatment tell him he cannot, that the best thing for him is chemo? Does he know? Has he ever taken chemo? Does he have a sick child with chemo?? Probably not, so how in the h%$# can he say that chemo is the best treatment for him? Has he seen Daniel on alternative treatment? Does he even know enough about cancer to know that there is and could be alternative treatment before demanding that he stay and continue on chemo, which is not making him happy, which in turn is slowing down his recovery.
Half the time I feel like it is the drug companies that are influencing people, such as Judges to make these ridiculous rulings for people having to continue on chemo against their will. There have been talks about people finding cures for cancer, but honestly I think there is a conspiracy theory here. Drug companies want people to continue to be sick so that they can continue making money, instead of having a healthy America. Times like these are when I wish I was a scientist.
I feel like I need to start a petition to free poor Daniel Hauser and his family from Minnesota. Let Daniel go, let him try alternative treatment. If it doesn’t work and he is getting worse, then see if he will continue on chemo, give him a choice, give him a voice – it is his body, his life. FREE DANIEL HAUSER!
