The proposed Arizona bill crackdown on illegal immigrants, by encouraging rubes to look at a person and to tell whether he or she looks like a person who should be is in the country legally is a plan than only could have come from the soul of racism. Well, also it could come from the soul of frustration. America -- any country -- should police its borders. This Arizona bill will add nothing to better borders control, but can lead to a great deal of violence
It doesn't take an archbishop to spot the evil that this bill could produce. Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles said if the bill becomes law it will encourage nazism. The bill would "create a new state misdemeanor of willful failure to complete or carry an alien registration document. It would also require officers to determine people’s immigration status if there’s reason to suspect they’re in the country illegally."
In short, a person who was born in the country, whose folks have been here for hundreds of years, could be stopped, asked to show his "alien registration" papers, and be arrested, when he fails to show papers that he doesn't have, because he is a natural born citizen. Of course to the rube who challenged him, he looked foreign, or Mexican.
Arizona bill has been sent to the governor. As of this morning, she hasn't indicated whether she will sign this bill or not.
