Seriously people? You are honestly critiquing that the president is wearing “frumpy Mom Jeans” to throw the first pitch at the All-Star baseball game? Shouldn’t the public be worried about other presidential concerns or world topics, other than the jeans the president is wearing? I admit, Barack Obama is a pretty hip president, but was it necessary for him to apologize to the public for wearing “frumpy” jeans? Not at all! This on the other hand must be a good sign that the United States is pretty happy with our president if we have come down to smaller things such as what jeans the president is wearing.
He was interviewed on NBC’s “Today Show” mostly talking about serious topics (thankfully), and then he made a public apology admitting that he hates to shop and that the jeans he had worn were comfortable. He was quoted saying, “For people who want a president to look great in tight jeans, I'm sorry." Honestly, I am still shocked that he even apologized for this. Obama is the president of the United States of America, freedom of choice, right?! I guess it is better than Bush being criticized for being a bad present (which in my opinion he was no where near great), at least Obama is only being criticized for his taste in jeans. I’m surprised fashion forward first lady, Michelle Obama, does not buy his jeans.
I am still laughing inside – I guess you can consider Obama a celebrity, which most people when he was running for president did, and tried to put that against him. I suppose maybe that is where people come in saying that he has to be fashionable and can criticize his wardrobe like any other celebrity, but really? America, when we see the president of the United States, instead of talking about his wardrobe and wasting possibly twenty minutes of his time, lets talk about other important issues, such as healthcare, unemployment rates, the job market, the world crisis, the war in Afghanistan, our troops that are dying on a daily basis and what his plan is for that, etc. It just baffles me that we are wasting an important person’s time on petty, materialistic, self image topics. I could see the United States people asking questions in regards to other personal issues such as if we thought the president had a health issue, such as bulimia or over dosing on sleeping pills, or something in that nature (which honestly is still not the public concern, but could be if it effected his work), but wasting valuable time talking about his jeans?
I think the United States has become delusional with this recession… People are bypassing the important issues to talk about stuff that does not even matter. We’re lucky the president even owns jeans and that we as the United States can afford clothing, let alone what is cool enough for the president to wear… give me a break – United States people - please do not disgrace and discredit our Nation wasting the president’s valuable time on this petty issue.
