If you have ever been to Los Angeles and Seattle than you know that there is a HUGE difference in the way that people from each city drives. In Seattle you have the drivers that are used to different weather types such as rain and snow and occasional sunshine and in Los Angeles you have drivers who are used to merging in heavy traffic, squeezing in small spaces and not afraid to ride on your ass.
In Seattle you have the polite drivers who when at a four way stop will not go because each driver at the stop is too courteous and waves the other driver on. Three minutes later, each car at the four way stop tries to go at the same time, then they all stop, wave each other on again, no one goes, and the same thing happens. Finally one driver steps up and goes. You also have the over cautious driver in Seattle who is afraid to get too close to the car in front of them that they are constantly tapping on their brakes causing a back up all the way down the freeway. There is also the occasional stereotypical “Asian” driver who slows down to merge lanes on the freeway, almost coming to a complete stop, creating accidents as they do it, if that is not frustrating, I do not know what is. You would also think that most drivers in Seattle should know how to drive in the rain, and most do, but occasionally you get the driver who goes too fast on the first day of rain, or is texting while driving and BAM slams right into you. There have also been cases where sunshine has blinded Seattle drivers, also causing accidents.
In Los Angeles you have the insane LA drivers who honk their horn every other second if you do not move before the light even turns green. You have drivers constantly running red lights, especially on left hand turns because there are hardly any turn arrows in Los Angeles (but most drivers are used to that and allow traffic to clear before they decide to scare you by honking or getting on your ass). While driving on the freeway, although the speed limit is 65, everyone goes 80. Los Angeles drivers are used to the blaring sun, so they all wear shades and most have tinted windows. LA freeways are bumper to bumper and everyone rides on each others asses. If you are not a defensive driver, than you should probably not drive in LA, because you will be the one who causes the accidents. The only thing that California drivers are horrible at is driving in the rain. It could be that the roads are slippery since it does not rain often, but most LA drivers plainly do not know how to drive in the rain, especially since they do not allow any room while driving. When coming to a four way stop, unlike Seattle drivers, all LA drivers try to go at once and are not polite, they only look out for themselves. They do a “California stop” which is tapping the break, but not a complete stop before moving on.
Luckily, I grew up in the rainy city of Seattle, so I know how to drive in the rain and snow. I also used to race go-karts so I learned to drive defensively. Since living in Los Angeles for several years, I am also used to the blaring, blinding sun, honking, and riding on people’s asses. Not too many Los Angeles people can stand driving in Seattle and not too many Seattle drivers can handle driving in Los Angeles.
